Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales celebrated 40 years as Patron of the British Film Institute (BFI) with a star studded gathering at BFI Southbank. During his visit Charles was shown archival footage of from the BFI's Peter Sellers collection.
In 2015, Tom Hiddleston was announced as the first Ambassador for the BFI so he was the first guest to greet the Prince. Charles told Tom that he enjoyed the watching Night Manager. I feel like that would've been the perfect place to slip in a and so does your wife joke. Tom also spoke about the important of the work being done by the BFI:
"The reason I believe in the BFI is because I believe in film as an art form. It began as a physical art form, it's a chemical process, it's capturing life with light. The prints of early film work that have enabled the art form to become what it's become, light, sound, movement, are preserved by the BFI and without it we would lose it. So the silent Hitchcocks, the prints of Lawrence of Arabia, Brief Encounter (by) David Lean, all British film is standing on the shoulders of those titans so the preservation of that material is as important as preserving the work of the National Portrait Gallery and the Tate, it's part of our national heritage."
Other attendees included Hayley Atwell, David Oyelowo, and Ruth Wilson.
