February 15, 2009:
Tom Hiddleston attended the WhatsOnStage.com TheatreGoersChoice Awards. Thankfully this was eventually shortened to just the WhatsOnStage Awards. This is the only major theatre awards show where all winners are decided by the public. The event was held at the London Hippodrome. Tom was nominated for his combined work in Othello and Ivanov at the Donmar Warehouse. He also attended the nominations launch party.
Tom narrowly beat out his Ivanov co-star Kevin R. McNally by just .4% of the votes (24.1% v 23.7%) for Best Support Actor in a Play. But there was no hard feelings! They happily posed together, along with fellow nominee Malcolm Sinclair.
You can see Tom holding two trophies because he also collected Kenneth Branagh's award for Best Actor in a Play. Additionally, their play, Ivanov, won Best Revival and Othello won Best Shakespearean Production.
Tom Hiddleston described it as a "huge, huge honor" that people still take time to go the the theatre and enjoyed watching their performances. (1:19)
February 15, 2015:
Flashforward six years later. Same date. Same award show - shorter name. The venue was changed to the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. Tom Hiddleston and his fellow cast/crew were nominated for their work in Coriolanus but still at the Donmar Warehouse. Coriolanus had a total of six nominations.
Tom narrowly lost the Best Actor in a Play race to David Tennant, who was rewarded for his work in Richard II. A role Hiddleston has been attached to play in a James Ivory film for years but they still can not find funding. WWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYY?!?!?
But he didn't go home empty handed. Tom accepted the award for Best Play Revival along with Coriolanus director Josie Rourke. There's a hilarious moment where the presenter (I believe her name is Mel Giedroyc) pouts because she didn't get a hug. Same sis. Tom described working on Coriolanus as one of "proudest moments" in his "working life". He also gave his co-star Hadley Fraser a shoutout for "punching me so hard and kissing me so sweetly".
Tom added "the fact that this was voted on by the audience means a great deal to me. Because it means that they were as much a part of this occasion as I was.".

Level Up Challenge Complete. Even the award had a Glow Up!
Fashion:
If anyone needed further evidence that Tom Hiddleston can be a very thoughtful dresser than look no further. Tom re-wore the same checked, navy Armani suit to the 2015 WhatsOnStage Awards that he wore to the Coriolanus Press Night party. This is not a suit that he ever wore frequently.
